Can we develop a simple yet accurate method to distinguish organic from psychogenic ED?
ED is the term used to describe the condition of being unable to get or keep an erection long enough to engage in satisfying sexual activity. So, it encompasses a few circumstances: You can get an erection but can’t maintain it for a long enough period of time. You can get semi-erect but not fully firm. An erection just won’t happen at all. Erections sometimes happen but sometimes won’t.
This depends on whether you know what it is causing your ED. There are some things you can do that may help prevent ED, including: Avoid drinking too much alcohol, smoking, or abusing drugs. Ask your doctor if ED is a side effect of a new or current medicine you are taking. He or she may have an alternative medicine. Control your blood sugar and blood pressure. Try to relax and avoid stress.
DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a hormone that our body’s adrenal glands typically produce. Production of DHEA naturally drops as we age, but DHEA is a precursor to the sex hormones testosterone and estrogen.

The goal of treatment of this defect is to reconstruct a straight penis with a meatus close to the normal anatomic location. Repair is being performed at progressively younger ages to avoid emotional distress in the young child. Currently, the recommended age for repair is between 3 and 12 months (for hypospadias epispadias or urethroplasty) and during the first year (for chordee repair or orthoplasty). Three objectives of surgical correction of this defect are to ensure the child's ability to void in the standing position with a straight stream (will minimize child and parent anxiety) to improve the child's physical appearance and ensure a positive body image and to preserve sexual function. Although ED is commonly seen in older men, it is not a natural part of aging. Older men may need more sexual stimulation, such as touching or stroking, to achieve an erection, or they may need longer periods between two erections. Older men in good health, however, should be able to get an erection sufficient for intercourse.
A German study found that 69% of men involved in a sleep apnea study also suffered from ED. Disruptions to breathing during sleep affect oxygen levels in the blood, which can cause problems generating an erection. Lack of sleep also disrupts hormone production.
There’s some evidence, from the few well-controlled studies that have evaluated yohimbe bark, that this herb can help patients with ED, especially when it’s used in combination with other treatments or herbal therapies. You can find yohimbe bark in capsule and tablet forms in health food stores. For erectile dysfunction, most studies have found positive results from taking 10–20 milligrams per day. (24)
Most of the supplements you can use to combat ED are more expensive than generic drugs. You also have to take them every day for them to be effective, unlike certain ED meds that you can take as needed.
