The inability to achieve an erection is a symptom of an underlying health problem or a result of lifestyle factors that aren’t allowing the physiological mechanisms of an erection to unfold. For some men, this is only an occasional problem, which may be the result of increased stress, drinking alcohol or fatigue. But for men who experience erectile dysfunction more than 50 percent of the time when they are trying to engage in sexual activity, this may indicate that there’s a bigger health problem that needs to be addressed.

Cholesterol can cause damage to blood vessel linings in all parts of the body – including the penis. Blockages caused by elevated cholesterol levels or plaques that restrict flowing blood can prevent erectile tissue from filling with blood. A healthy diet and lifestyle, including regular exercise, can help control these levels and the risk of developing ED. In addition, doctors may prescribe pharmaceuticals to lower cholesterol in the blood.

Mean weight loss was 2 kg with a 1.5 cm reduction in waist circumference.9 There was no significant increase in mean PSA and mean haematocrit was unchanged. Another meta-analysis showed significant reduction in fasting plasma glucose, HbA1c, fat mass and triglycerides, but no significant change in total and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, blood pressure or BMI.10
The goal of treatment of this defect is to reconstruct a straight penis with a meatus close to the normal anatomic location. Repair is being performed at progressively younger ages to avoid emotional distress in the young child. Currently, the recommended age for repair is between 3 and 12 months (for hypospadias epispadias or urethroplasty) and during the first year (for chordee repair or orthoplasty). Three objectives of surgical correction of this defect are to ensure the child's ability to void in the standing position with a straight stream (will minimize child and parent anxiety) to improve the child's physical appearance and ensure a positive body image and to preserve sexual function.
